NIKE, Inc. has dominated the performance basketball space for a few decades, and it recently (unofficially) previewed the next page in its never-ending story: the Nike Cosmic Unity.
First showcased by Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers in December 2020, the silhouette has taken the internet by storm with its eye-catching design. Mixed materials make up the upper, mostly following a net-like aesthetic from midfoot to forefoot. The heel areas forego any strapping, but indulge in an equally eyebrow-raising and ridge-laden arrangement. The shoelace guards offer their own style thanks to a construction that extends beyond the highest functional eyelet to the Air Jordan 34.
Elsewhere, enlarged side swooshes add more personality to the hoops-ready proposition, but they’re overshadowed by the domed, spherical style of the midsole. Cutouts throughout the tooling resemble those of Allen Iverson’s first signature shoe; the midsole of this Cosmic Unity sports a “Green Glow” tone that revels in the spotlight thanks to its muted surroundings. Underfoot, a full-length Air Zoom Strobel unit – which currently exists on the KD 13 – is visible via the herringbone tread. (Padding is sewn directly to the upper via this arrangement.)
The official Nike.com release date is still unknown, but this new Nike Basketball sneaker is expected to launch before the start of the 2020-21 NBA Playoffs. Given the “Cosmic Green” colors, it could drop during All-Star Week as the color scheme matches other All-Star Week drops such as the All-Star Dunk High and Foamposite. While you wait, enjoy the images of the upcoming pair.
In related Swoosh news, official images of the Kobe 6 Protro “All-Star” recently surfaced.
